KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, held a productive intergovernmental engagement with the Ambassador of Sweden to South Africa, Her Excellency Ms Anna-Karin Eneström, aimed at strengthening cooperation between KwaZulu-Natal and Sweden.
The engagement focused on opportunities to deepen partnerships in investment, skills development, knowledge exchange and climate change mitigation and adaptation.
Premier Ntuli highlighted KwaZulu-Natal’s rich cultural diversity and significant economic potential, positioning the province as an attractive destination for international investment and strategic partnerships.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both parties to explore areas of mutual interest that could contribute towards economic growth, skills development and improved opportunities for the people of KwaZulu-Natal.
Ambassador Eneström highlighted the strong presence and success of Swedish companies operating in South Africa, including leading truck manufacturers Volvo and Scania, as an indication of the potential for further economic cooperation and investment.
Premier Ntuli welcomed the opportunity to strengthen ties with Sweden and emphasised the importance of international partnerships that translate into tangible economic and developmental benefits.
The Premier and Ambassador also agreed to explore opportunities in skills development and exchange, with a focus on strengthening human capital and exposing people to knowledge, expertise and international best practice.
Climate change mitigation and adaptation also featured prominently during the engagement.
Sweden’s extensive experience and advanced approaches to addressing climate change present opportunities for knowledge-sharing and collaboration as KwaZulu-Natal continues to strengthen its own climate resilience interventions.
Premier Ntuli emphasised that partnerships aimed at addressing climate change must ultimately contribute towards protecting communities, strengthening resilience and supporting sustainable economic development.
The engagement reaffirmed the commitment of both parties to building a stronger relationship that supports investment, skills development, economic growth and a more climate-resilient KwaZulu-Natal.
It also forms part of the Provincial Government’s broader approach to economic and public diplomacy, using international partnerships to unlock opportunities that contribute towards the province’s developmental priorities.
KwaZulu-Natal, Inspiring New Hope.
