KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, has declared September a month of intensified cleaning and law enforcement operations across the province through the implementation of Operation Engangeni Ngesango Iyafohla.
The operation is being rolled out across various districts with the aim of restoring law and order, strengthening border security, enforcing compliance with legislation and addressing illegal activities that undermine the safety and wellbeing of communities.
Premier Ntuli said the Provincial Government is intensifying coordinated operations with law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders to ensure that individuals and businesses operating in KwaZulu-Natal comply with the law.
During the operation, 29 suspects were arrested for allegedly being in the province unlawfully, while a number of businesses were closed for non-compliance with relevant laws and regulatory requirements.
The Premier said the operations demonstrate government’s commitment to strengthening accountability and ensuring that the rule of law is applied consistently across the province.
He emphasised that the campaign is aimed at addressing unlawful activity, improving compliance and creating safer communities for residents, businesses and visitors.
Premier Ntuli further said Operation Engangeni Ngesango Iyafohla will continue throughout September, with intensified district-level operations focusing on areas where law enforcement and regulatory intervention are required.
The Premier reiterated that effective enforcement depends on collaboration between government departments, municipalities, law enforcement agencies and other relevant stakeholders.
He said the Provincial Government remains committed to ensuring that businesses comply with applicable legislation and that criminal and unlawful activities are dealt with decisively.
The September operations form part of a broader effort to strengthen public safety, reinforce the rule of law and improve the overall wellbeing of communities across KwaZulu-Natal.
Premier Ntuli said government will continue to monitor the implementation of the operation throughout the month and ensure that appropriate action is taken wherever non-compliance is identified.
