KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, officially handed over a free public Wi-Fi Network Tower to the eSifuleni community within uMsinga Local Municipality.
The handover took place during the Provincial Government’s Operation Sukuma Sakhe Cabinet Day held at the Solomon Linda Sports Complex in Ward 18.
The initiative forms part of government’s ongoing efforts to bring essential services closer to communities and improve access to digital connectivity, particularly in rural areas.
Premier Ntuli said access to digital infrastructure is increasingly important in ensuring that communities are not left behind in education, business, communication and access to government services.
The free public Wi-Fi Network Tower is expected to benefit learners, young people, job seekers, small businesses and residents who rely on internet connectivity for information, opportunities and communication.
The Premier emphasised that digital access is no longer a luxury, but an important tool for empowerment, development and inclusion.
He said the Provincial Government remains committed to using Operation Sukuma Sakhe as a platform to identify community needs, unblock service delivery challenges and deliver practical interventions that improve people’s lives.
The handover of the Wi-Fi Network Tower reaffirmed government’s commitment to building connected, informed and empowered communities across KwaZulu-Natal.
Premier Ntuli further encouraged residents to use the facility responsibly and to protect the infrastructure so that it continues to benefit the broader community.
The initiative reflects the Provincial Government’s broader commitment to bridging the digital divide and ensuring that rural communities are able to participate meaningfully in the digital economy.
