KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, joined the Consulate General of India in Durban for a Flag Hoisting Ceremony held at India House in Morningside, Durban, on Saturday, 15 August 2026.

The ceremony formed part of celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of India’s independence from British colonial rule.

Premier Ntuli attended the event at the invitation of the Consulate General of India in Durban, joining members of the diplomatic community, invited guests and members of the Indian community in commemorating the historic occasion.

The Flag Hoisting Ceremony provided an opportunity to reflect on India’s journey to independence and the values of freedom, dignity and self-determination that continue to resonate across nations that experienced colonial rule.

The occasion also highlighted the longstanding historical, cultural and people-to-people ties between India and KwaZulu-Natal.

KwaZulu-Natal is home to a significant Indian community whose contribution continues to be felt across business, education, culture, public life and community development.

Premier Ntuli’s attendance reaffirmed the Provincial Government’s commitment to strengthening international relations and deepening partnerships with diplomatic missions represented in the province.

The celebration further underscored the importance of maintaining strong ties between KwaZulu-Natal and India, while promoting cooperation, mutual respect and shared opportunities for development.

As India commemorated 80 years of independence, the ceremony at India House served as a celebration of freedom and a reminder of the enduring bonds between the people of India and KwaZulu-Natal.
