KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, tabled the Women’s Parliament Resolutions at the Peace Initiative Hall in Ixopo, under the Harry Gwala District Municipality, on Friday, 07 August 2026.

The Women’s Parliament was held under the theme, “Honouring our Legacy, Empowering our Future: Women Driving Equality, Justice and Inclusive Growth”, and brought together women from diverse backgrounds, cultures and communities.

During the tabling of the resolutions, Premier Ntuli paid tribute to the more than 20 000 women who marched to the Union Buildings 70 years ago in protest against the unjust pass laws.

The Premier said the heroic and united action of the women of 1956 changed the course of South African history and contributed to the eventual attainment of freedom and democracy.

Premier Ntuli said the courage, discipline and unity demonstrated by the women of 1956 must continue to inspire present and future generations in the ongoing struggle for equality, justice and inclusive growth.

The Premier also invoked the spirit of Queen Nandi, Princess Magogo kaDinuzulu and Princess Mkabayi kaJama, recognising their important role in history, the arts, leadership and the respect accorded to the Zulu Royal Family.

He urged those in attendance to honour and emulate the actions of South Africa’s political and historical heroines by working to build a society where women are safe, respected and economically empowered.

Premier Ntuli said women must be able to walk the streets without fear of being violated, harassed or abused.

He further emphasised the need to remove barriers that prevent women from participating meaningfully in the economy, saying red tape must be replaced by a red carpet that leads to women’s economic emancipation.

The Premier said government, civil society, traditional leaders, communities and the private sector must work together to create opportunities for women, protect their dignity and ensure that their voices are heard in decision-making platforms.

The Women’s Parliament reaffirmed the Provincial Government’s commitment to advancing gender equality, fighting gender-based violence and femicide, promoting inclusive economic growth and honouring the legacy of women who sacrificed for the freedom enjoyed today.

Premier Ntuli concluded by calling on all sectors of society to ensure that the resolutions of the Women’s Parliament translate into practical action that improves the lives of women across KwaZulu-Natal.
