KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, hosted the Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Technologies, Mr Kenny Morolong, in Pietermaritzburg on Wednesday, 05 August 2026, for a strategic engagement aimed at strengthening government communication across all spheres.

The meeting focused on enhancing coordination between national, provincial and local government communication structures to ensure that government messages, campaigns and service delivery programmes reach communities more effectively.

Premier Ntuli and Deputy Minister Morolong agreed that effective communication remains a cornerstone of good governance, as it enables government to inform citizens, promote public participation and account for the work being done to improve people’s lives.

The engagement also emphasised the importance of a well-capacitated and coordinated communication function that can amplify government’s voice, ensure that programmes are properly understood, and make the impact of service delivery visible to communities.

Premier Ntuli said communication must not be treated as an afterthought, but as a critical governance tool that connects government with the people it serves.

He further noted that clear, consistent and credible communication is essential in building public trust, countering misinformation and ensuring that communities are aware of opportunities, services and interventions available to them.

Deputy Minister Morolong reaffirmed the importance of strengthening communication systems across all spheres of government, particularly at municipal level where communities interact most directly with the state.

The engagement underscored the need for stronger collaboration, improved messaging, better resourcing and a more integrated approach to government communication.

Premier Ntuli said the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government remains committed to ensuring that communication supports service delivery, strengthens accountability and contributes to building an informed and empowered citizenry.

The strategic engagement reaffirmed the shared commitment between national and provincial government to improving communication capacity and ensuring that government programmes are communicated clearly, consistently and effectively to the people of KwaZulu-Natal.
