KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, together with the Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Honourable Parks Tau, the MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Reverend Musa Zondi, and eThekwini Municipality Executive Mayor, Councillor Cyril Xaba, visited the Toyota Isipingo plant in Prospecton on Thursday, 16 July 2026.

The visit formed part of efforts to highlight KwaZulu-Natal’s growing role as a strategic hub for automotive manufacturing, industrial development and investment.

During the visit, Premier Ntuli and his delegation toured the plant to experience the new production line for the Toyota Hilux and Toyota T-Cross.

The Premier expressed his appreciation for the work being undertaken at the facility, noting that Toyota’s continued investment in KwaZulu-Natal contributes significantly to job creation, skills development, industrial growth and the broader economic development of the province.

Premier Ntuli was particularly pleased to engage with young people who had received training in Japan and who shared their experiences in advanced vehicle manufacturing. He said their exposure to international skills development and global production standards demonstrates the importance of investing in young people and preparing them for the future of work.

The Premier said the automotive sector remains a critical contributor to economic growth and industrialisation, and that partnerships between government, industry and training institutions are essential in ensuring that young people are equipped with the skills required by the modern economy.

President Cyril Ramaphosa was expected to deliver the keynote address but was unable to attend due to the demanding workload facing his office. Minister Parks Tau delivered the keynote address on behalf of the President.

The visit reaffirmed government’s commitment to supporting investment, strengthening local manufacturing, promoting skills transfer and positioning KwaZulu-Natal as a competitive destination for industrial development.

Premier Ntuli said the Provincial Government will continue to work with national government, municipalities and the private sector to create an enabling environment for investment, job creation and inclusive economic growth.
