Durban | 25 May 2026 - KwaZulu-Natal marked Africa Day with a vibrant and colourful celebration of unity in diversity, as communities gathered in Durban to honour the continent’s shared heritage, history and identity.

The festivities began with a spectacular cultural parade through the streets of Durban, showcasing the rich traditions, music, dance, attire and multicultural spirit that define Africa. The parade brought together people from different backgrounds in a joyful celebration of the continent’s diversity and shared destiny.

Africa Day is celebrated annually on 25 May to commemorate the formation of the Organisation of African Unity in 1963 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The day remains an important reminder of Africa’s journey towards freedom, unity, equality and self-determination.

The KwaZulu-Natal celebration was graced by Premier Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, together with Members of the Executive Council, reaffirming the Provincial Government’s commitment to promoting cultural pride, social cohesion and a strong sense of African identity.

The celebration formed part of a broader programme of activities taking place across the province in honour of Africa Day. Through these events, KwaZulu-Natal continues to celebrate its place within the African continent while strengthening unity, tolerance and mutual respect among all communities.

Premier Ntuli’s participation underscored the province’s commitment to advancing the values of Ubuntu, continental solidarity and inclusive development, while inspiring new hope for a united and prosperous Africa.
