uKhahlamba Local Municipality | 21 May 2026 - KwaZulu-Natal Premier Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli officially opened the Vimbukhalo Water Supply Project at the Vimbukhalo Sports Field in uKhahlamba Local Municipality, under the uThukela District Municipality, on Thursday, 21 May 2026.

The opening marked a significant milestone in the provincial government’s commitment to improving access to clean, reliable and sustainable water for communities across KwaZulu-Natal.

The project included the unveiling of two major water reticulation developments, namely Vimbukhalo Reticulation 03 and Vimbukhalo Reticulation 04. These projects are designed to strengthen water supply infrastructure and improve access to potable water for households in Wards 2 and 14.

More than 3 500 households are expected to benefit from the completed water infrastructure, bringing much-needed relief to communities that have long faced challenges related to water access.

In addition to improving household water supply, the project also created job opportunities for local residents during implementation, contributing to local economic activity and supporting livelihoods within the municipality.

Premier Ntuli said the completion of the two projects represents an important step in restoring dignity, improving the quality of life and inspiring new hope for the people of uKhahlamba.

He emphasised that access to water is not only a basic service, but a foundation for health, development and economic participation. Reliable water supply enables communities to live with dignity, supports local development and strengthens the broader socio-economic growth of the district.

The Vimbukhalo Water Supply Project reflects government’s continued commitment to addressing service delivery challenges, investing in critical infrastructure and ensuring that communities receive the basic services they need to thrive.
