KwaZulu-Natal Premier Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, together with MEC for Sports, Arts and Culture Mntomuhle Khawula and other dignitaries, attended a gala dinner held in honour of Durban City FC following the club’s historic Nedbank Cup triumph.
Durban City FC made history by becoming the first team from KwaZulu-Natal to win the Nedbank Cup since the competition’s inception 17 years ago. The achievement has been widely celebrated as a proud moment for the province and a major milestone in KwaZulu-Natal football.
Premier Ntuli congratulated the club for flying the provincial sports flag high and for inspiring football lovers across KwaZulu-Natal. He extended special appreciation to club Chairman Farook Kadodia, the coaching and technical team, management, support staff and players for their dedication, discipline and commitment throughout the tournament.
The Premier said the victory was not only a sporting achievement, but also a symbol of what can be accomplished through teamwork, strategic leadership and belief. He noted that Durban City FC’s success will inspire young footballers across the province to pursue excellence and dream beyond their circumstances.
The gala dinner provided an opportunity to celebrate the players and technical team for bringing national silverware to KwaZulu-Natal and placing the province firmly on the national football stage.
Premier Ntuli reaffirmed the Provincial Government’s commitment to supporting sport development, strengthening talent pipelines and promoting football as a tool for youth empowerment, social cohesion and provincial pride.
