The Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, has strongly condemned the brutal killing of a police officer in Durban, following a violent shooting incident that occurred yesterday.
The Premier has expressed deep sorrow at the loss of a dedicated member of the South African Police Service and extended his heartfelt condolences to the family, colleagues, and loved ones of the fallen officer.
“We are deeply saddened by this senseless and barbaric attack on a member of our law enforcement. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and colleagues of the officer who paid the ultimate price in service to our nation,” said Premier Ntuli.
The incident, which reportedly occurred while police officers were responding to armed suspects, also left another officer injured. Premier Ntuli has wished the injured officer a full and speedy recovery.
“We wish the injured officer strength and a speedy recovery. The province stands with you during this difficult time,” he added.
Premier Ntuli described the killing of any police officer as a direct attack on the authority of the state and the rule of law.
“An attack on a police officer is an attack on the state itself. Such acts are not only criminal but amount to a betrayal of the rule of law and must be met with the harshest possible consequences,” emphasised the Premier.
He further called on communities to work closely with law enforcement agencies by providing any information that may assist in the investigation and the swift apprehension of those responsible.
“We urge anyone with information to come forward and assist the police. Criminals must not be protected within our communities. Together, we must isolate and defeat those who threaten the safety and stability of our society,” said Premier Ntuli.
The Premier reaffirmed the Provincial Government’s commitment to supporting law enforcement agencies in their efforts to combat crime and ensure that justice is served.
