KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli today embarked on a Good Friday programme of faith-based engagements as part of his ongoing commitment to strengthening partnerships with religious communities across the province.
Diakonia Service and Good Friday Procession
The Premier commenced his itinerary at the Diakonia Council of Churches morning service held at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban. He was joined by eThekwini Mayor Cyril Xaba and other dignitaries.
In a symbolic act marking the significance of Good Friday, Premier Ntuli participated in the carrying of the crucifixion cross through the streets of Durban, reflecting on the spiritual meaning of sacrifice, redemption and renewal associated with the day.
Engagements Across Faith Institutions
The Good Friday programme forms part of the Premier’s broader Easter weekend church visits aimed at engaging with diverse faith-based organisations and congregations across KwaZulu-Natal.
Following the Diakonia service, the Premier’s itinerary includes:
• Attendance at the 136th Annual Shri Prayer at the Shri Mariammen Temple Society in Mt Edgecombe
• Participation in the African Gospel Church Passover Conference in Port Durnford under the Zululand District
• Engagement at the Fruit That Remains Passover Convention hosted by Covenant Fellowship Church International
Promoting Unity, Compassion and Social Cohesion
The Easter period is widely observed as a time of reflection, renewal and spiritual upliftment. Premier Ntuli emphasised that these engagements provide an opportunity to join communities in worship while reinforcing the values of unity, compassion and social cohesion.
He acknowledged the critical role played by faith-based organisations in supporting vulnerable groups, promoting moral regeneration and fostering social stability within communities.
Strengthening Partnerships with Faith-Based Organisations
The Premier’s engagements underscore the Provincial Government’s commitment to working collaboratively with religious institutions to address social challenges and build cohesive, value-driven communities.
Premier Ntuli reaffirmed that faith-based organisations remain key partners in advancing social development, particularly during significant religious periods that bring communities together across cultural and spiritual lines.
