eMashobeni Royal Palace | uPhongolo Local Municipality | 2 April 2026 - The Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Thamsanqa Ntuli, today undertook an official visit to His Majesty King Misuzulu KaZwelithini at the eMashobeni Royal Palace in the uPhongolo Local Municipality.
The visit formed part of ongoing high-level engagements between the Provincial Government and the Zulu Monarch on matters of strategic importance relating to the Ingonyama Trust and the Ingonyama Trust Board.
Strengthening Governance and Collaboration
The engagement focused on issues concerning governance, administration and the future direction of the Ingonyama Trust, which plays a critical role in land administration and rural development across KwaZulu-Natal.
Premier Ntuli emphasised the importance of continued collaboration between government and traditional leadership in ensuring that the Trust fulfils its mandate of benefiting rural communities and advancing socio-economic development.
Strategic Importance of the Ingonyama Trust
The Ingonyama Trust holds significant land assets on behalf of the Zulu nation and is central to land management, economic development and community empowerment in rural areas. Discussions therefore centred on strengthening institutional effectiveness, accountability and sustainability within the Trust and its Board.

The meeting underscores the Provincial Government’s commitment to maintaining strong working relations with the Zulu Monarch and traditional leadership structures in addressing key governance matters and advancing development priorities.
Premier Ntuli reiterated that collaboration with traditional leadership remains essential in building cohesive communities, improving service delivery and ensuring that development initiatives reach rural populations across KwaZulu-Natal.
