KwaSokhulu Traditional Authority | 29 March 2026 - KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli attended the official installation of Inkosi Phineas Mthiyane of the Sokhulu/Mthiyane clan, officiated by His Majesty King Misuzulu KaZwelithini at the KwaSokhulu Traditional Authority on Sunday, 29 March 2026.
The installation ceremony marked a significant milestone for the Sokhulu/Mthiyane clan and the broader institution of traditional leadership in KwaZulu-Natal. The event brought together members of the royal family, traditional leaders, government representatives and community members to witness the formal recognition of leadership within the clan.
Role of Traditional Leadership in Social Cohesion
Addressing the gathering, Premier Ntuli congratulated Inkosi Mthiyane on his installation and highlighted the critical role played by traditional leaders in fostering unity, stability and social cohesion within communities.
He noted that Amakhosi remain central to governance at community level, particularly in rural areas, where they contribute to dispute resolution, cultural preservation and development initiatives.

The ceremony was characterised by vibrant displays of Zulu culture, including traditional attire, folk music and dance, reflecting the rich heritage and identity of the province.
The occasion was attended by Zulu royalty from various palaces and traditional authorities, underscoring the significance of the installation within the broader traditional leadership landscape.
