Peacevale | 7 March 2026 - KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli attended the Annual March Convention of the Church of the Holy Ghost, widely known as Ibandla likaMoya, held at Peacevale near Hammarsdale on Saturday, 7 March 2026.
The gathering brought together congregants and church leaders from across the province for a spiritual convention that has become a longstanding tradition within the church community. The Church of the Holy Ghost, founded more than a century ago, is marking 109 years of existence and has played a significant role in the spiritual life and social support of many communities across KwaZulu-Natal.
A Church with a Deep Historical Legacy
Premier Ntuli reflected on the historical journey of the church, noting that its existence spans major periods in South Africa’s history, including colonial rule, the apartheid era, and the democratic dispensation that followed in 1994.
He commended the church for remaining resilient and for continuing to provide moral guidance and support to communities throughout these transformative periods.
Faith Institutions as Partners in Community Development
Addressing the congregation, Premier Ntuli praised the church for its role in caring for both the spiritual and physical needs of communities. He emphasised that faith-based organisations remain important partners in promoting social cohesion, moral regeneration and community development.
The Premier noted that churches often serve as safe spaces for community engagement, counselling, youth development and support for vulnerable families.
Encouraging Youth to Access Government Opportunities
Premier Ntuli also used the platform to encourage young people to take advantage of education and economic empowerment programmes offered by the provincial government.
He highlighted opportunities such as government bursaries and Youth Empowerment Fund initiatives aimed at supporting young people in accessing higher education, developing entrepreneurial ventures and contributing to economic growth.
“These programmes help young people realise their dreams in education and in starting their own businesses, which in turn create employment opportunities and contribute to the growth of the economy of KwaZulu-Natal,” said Premier Ntuli.
Strengthening Partnerships with Faith Communities
The Premier reiterated the Provincial Government’s commitment to working closely with faith-based organisations as partners in building stronger communities and promoting values of unity, compassion and responsible citizenship.
The March Convention continues to serve as an important annual gathering for the Church of the Holy Ghost, bringing together congregants to celebrate faith, community and the shared values that have sustained the church for more than a century.
