The Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, is steadfast and fully prepared to deliver the 2026 State of the Province Address (SOPA), a significant milestone in the province’s governance calendar. The address will reaffirm the Provincial Government’s unwavering commitment to three overarching priorities: advancing inclusive economic growth, accelerating sustainable infrastructure development, and building a capable, ethical, and responsive state.
Scheduled for Friday, 27 February 2026, the address will serve as both a constitutional obligation and a strategic platform to inspire renewed hope among the people of KwaZulu-Natal. It will outline a clear and results-oriented roadmap aimed at strengthening governance, stimulating economic activity, and improving the quality of life across the province.
Premier Ntuli will present comprehensive plans to expand economic opportunities, with a particular focus on addressing youth and women’s unemployment. Key interventions will target growth in priority sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, tourism, and township and rural economies, while strengthening support for small, medium, and micro-enterprises (SMMEs). These efforts will be reinforced through skills development initiatives, enterprise support programmes, and strategic public-private partnerships to create sustainable employment.
Infrastructure development will remain central to the provincial agenda, with commitments to the construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance of essential infrastructure, including transport networks, healthcare facilities, water and sanitation systems, and schools. These investments aim to enhance service delivery, stimulate local economic development, and attract investment.
The Premier will also outline strengthened and coordinated crime prevention strategies, emphasising collaboration between law enforcement agencies, community structures, civil society, and the private sector. Ensuring safer schools and secure learning environments will be a priority within broader community safety interventions.
In addition, the address will highlight government’s initiatives to attract domestic and international investment by improving the ease of doing business, reducing regulatory barriers, and promoting strategic economic hubs and corridors.
The Premier will further report on ongoing interventions to address illegal immigration in collaboration with national authorities and relevant stakeholders. These efforts are aimed at ensuring compliance with immigration laws, protecting lawful economic participation, and safeguarding employment opportunities for residents of the province.
Overall, the 2026 State of the Province Address will provide an account of progress achieved while setting out decisive and measurable actions for the year ahead, underscoring government’s commitment to accountability, service excellence, and inclusive prosperity for all citizens of KwaZulu-Natal.
