KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli proceeded to the Nkandla central business district after concluding his Back to School Programme in the area, where he led Operation Engangeni Ngesango Iyafohla as part of ongoing provincial efforts to strengthen law enforcement compliance and protect local economic interests.

The operation focuses on identifying undocumented foreign nationals employed by local businesses under exploitative conditions, as well as ensuring compliance with immigration, labour and consumer protection regulations. During the operation, two foreign nationals were arrested after failing to produce valid documentation permitting them to remain in South Africa.

As part of the compliance drive, Premier Ntuli conducted unannounced visits to several retail outlets to verify adherence to food safety regulations and to ensure that expired or unsafe goods were not being sold to members of the public. The inspections form part of broader consumer protection measures aimed at safeguarding public health and enforcing responsible business practices.

Following the operation, the Premier undertook a walkabout through the Nkandla town centre, engaging directly with residents and local traders. Community members welcomed the opportunity to interact with the Premier, raising concerns, sharing experiences and expressing appreciation for the visible government presence.

Premier Ntuli was accompanied by King Cetshwayo District Mayor Councillor Dlamini and Nkandla Local Municipality Mayor Councillor Nzuza during the operation and community engagements.

The Provincial Government reiterated its commitment to maintaining lawful economic activity, protecting workers from exploitation, ensuring consumer safety and strengthening partnerships between government, law enforcement agencies and communities to promote social stability and economic development across KwaZulu-Natal.
