KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli visited four schools in the iNkandla Local Municipality during February, the month associated with compassion and giving, where he handed over school uniforms to learners from disadvantaged backgrounds as part of ongoing social support initiatives.
The Premier’s programme began at Senzela Secondary School before proceeding to Umzikazi Primary School, Vumanhlamvu Secondary School and iNkandla High School. During these visits, learners received essential school uniforms, including school shoes, aimed at improving dignity, confidence and equal participation in the learning environment.
The initiative formed part of broader provincial efforts to support vulnerable learners, reduce barriers to education and promote improved academic performance across rural communities. Access to proper school attire remains a significant challenge for many families, often affecting learner attendance, morale and overall educational outcomes.
Premier Ntuli was warmly received by municipal leadership, councillors, School Governing Body representatives, educators and officials from the Department of Education, who collectively emphasised the importance of partnerships between government, communities and schools in supporting learner development.
Addressing learners, Premier Ntuli encouraged them to remain focused on their studies and to strive for academic excellence despite socio-economic challenges. He emphasised that education remains one of the most powerful tools for personal development, social mobility and long-term economic participation.
The Premier highlighted that many successful leaders originate from disadvantaged backgrounds and urged learners not to allow their circumstances to define their aspirations or limit their potential. He further encouraged learners to work diligently to improve school pass rates and to position themselves as future leaders capable of contributing meaningfully to society.
The Provincial Government reaffirmed its commitment to supporting education through targeted interventions that enhance learner welfare, strengthen educational outcomes and promote inclusive development across KwaZulu-Natal communities.
