Mayville | Wednesday, 21 January 2026 - KwaZulu-Natal Premier Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli delivered the opening remarks at the Human Resource Development Council (HRDC) meeting held at the Archie Gumede Conference Centre in Mayville.
The meeting was attended by Members of the Executive Council, senior government officials, organised labour, business representatives, Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs), higher education institutions, TVET colleges, civil society organisations, and professional bodies from both the public and private sectors.
In his address, Premier Ntuli highlighted the critical role of human resource development in unlocking KwaZulu-Natal’s economic potential. He emphasised the need to remove persistent barriers to growth, with particular focus on correcting the misalignment between current skills development initiatives and the demands of a modern, rapidly evolving economy.
The HRDC engagement focused on strengthening coordination across sectors to ensure that education, training and skills programmes are responsive to labour market needs and future economic opportunities. Premier Ntuli underscored the importance of collaboration between government, business, labour and educational institutions to produce a skilled, adaptable and competitive workforce.
The Council reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the province’s human capital base as a foundation for inclusive economic growth, job creation and sustainable development across KwaZulu-Natal.
