Durban | Thursday, 1 January 2026 - KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli has reaffirmed the Provincial Government’s commitment to ensuring enhanced safety and security for residents and visitors during the festive season and into the New Year.

Earlier today, Premier Ntuli, accompanied by South African Police Service (SAPS) Provincial Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, conducted a walkabout along the Durban Beachfront, engaging directly with holidaymakers at the uShaka Marine World and South Beach precincts.

The engagement formed part of ongoing festive season safety operations aimed at providing visible policing, strengthening law enforcement presence, and reassuring the public that government remains vigilant in protecting lives and property during this high-traffic period.

During interactions with beachgoers, Premier Ntuli emphasised that safety remains a top priority for the Provincial Government and all law enforcement agencies as KwaZulu-Natal ushers in the New Year.

“The presence of law enforcement on our beaches and public spaces is a clear demonstration of government’s commitment to ensuring that everyone can enjoy the festive season in a safe and secure environment,” said Premier Ntuli.

He further urged holidaymakers to cooperate with law enforcement officials, respect the rule of law, and conduct themselves responsibly at all times to help maintain order and safety in public spaces.

The Premier also commended members of SAPS and other safety structures for their continued dedication and visible presence throughout the festive season, noting that their efforts play a critical role in crime prevention, rapid response, and maintaining public confidence.

The walkabout forms part of the province’s broader integrated safety strategy, which includes collaboration between SAPS, metro police, community safety structures and other law enforcement agencies to ensure a safe, welcoming and enjoyable festive season for all who visit KwaZulu-Natal.
