Ngwelezane, Empangeni | 28 December 2025 - KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli attended the final Sunday service of the year at the Holy Name Anglican Church in Ngwelezane, near Empangeni, where he joined congregants in reflection, prayer and thanksgiving ahead of the New Year.
During his brief message to the congregation, Premier Ntuli expressed his appreciation to the Church leadership and members for their continued prayers and spiritual support for the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government. He acknowledged the important role that faith-based institutions play in fostering moral regeneration, social cohesion and community stability across the province.
The Premier used the occasion to speak strongly against the scourge of gender-based violence and femicide, particularly crimes targeting women and children. He called on communities, families and faith leaders to work together to confront violence, promote respect and protect the most vulnerable members of society.
“As we close this year and prepare to enter a new one, we must recommit ourselves to building safe, caring and compassionate communities where the dignity of women and children is upheld at all times,” said Premier Ntuli.
He further urged congregants to prioritise safety during the festive season and as the province approaches the New Year, cautioning against reckless behaviour, crime and actions that could endanger lives. The Premier encouraged residents to look out for one another and to celebrate responsibly.
Premier Ntuli concluded by wishing the congregation well in the year ahead, expressing hope for peace, unity and renewed purpose in 2026. His attendance at the service reaffirmed the provincial government’s recognition of the vital role played by faith communities in nurturing social values and supporting the well-being of the people of KwaZulu-Natal.
