Nkandla | 25 December 2025 - KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli marked Christmas Day by visiting Nkandla Hospital to welcome babies born on this special occasion, celebrating new life and sharing the spirit of hope, compassion and goodwill with new mothers and healthcare workers.
The visit formed part of the Premier’s festive season outreach programme, underscoring the profound significance of childbirth and the importance of maternal and child health in building a healthy and prosperous society. Premier Ntuli spent time engaging with mothers who gave birth on Christmas Day, offering words of encouragement and congratulations, and presenting gifts to both the mothers and their newborn babies.
Addressing those present, the Premier described the birth of a child as a powerful symbol of renewal and hope, particularly during the Christmas season. He emphasised that every child born in KwaZulu-Natal represents a promise of a brighter future and a shared responsibility to ensure that children grow up in safe, caring and supportive environments.
Premier Ntuli also expressed his sincere appreciation to healthcare professionals on duty during the festive season, acknowledging their dedication, professionalism and selfless service. He commended nurses, doctors and support staff for working tirelessly to ensure safe deliveries and quality care, even while many South Africans were celebrating with their families.
“Our healthcare workers are the backbone of our health system. Their commitment, especially during holidays like Christmas, reflects true service to our people,” said the Premier.
The visit reaffirmed the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government’s commitment to strengthening maternal and child health services, improving conditions in public healthcare facilities, and supporting frontline workers who provide essential services to communities across the province.
The Christmas Day engagement at Nkandla Hospital was received warmly by staff and families, capturing the values of Ubuntu, compassion and community solidarity that define the festive season. The Provincial Government reiterated its resolve to continue investing in healthcare services to ensure that every child born in KwaZulu-Natal has a strong and healthy start in life.
