KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, presided over the provincial commemoration of the 2025 International Day for Persons with Disabilities, held at the Sibusisiwe Community Hall in the Mandeni Local Municipality under the iLembe District Municipality on Wednesday, 03 December 2025.
Observed under the theme “Creating strategic multisectoral partnerships for disability inclusion”, the event marked the culmination of Disability Rights Awareness Month, which runs annually from 03 November to 03 December. The commemorative month is dedicated to promoting inclusion, raising awareness about the challenges persons with disabilities continue to face, and advocating for their full participation and equal access to opportunities across society.
In his keynote address, Premier Ntuli reaffirmed the Provincial Government’s commitment to upholding the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities. He emphasised that disability inclusion remains a central pillar of the province’s social justice agenda, and that government must continue working closely with civil society, communities, the private sector, and organisations representing persons with disabilities to address barriers and expand opportunities.
Premier Ntuli stressed that disability rights are human rights, and that ensuring accessibility, empowerment, and representation is essential for building a fair and inclusive KwaZulu-Natal where every citizen’s voice is heard and valued.
The commemoration brought together stakeholders, disability advocates, community leaders, and families, all united in advancing the vision of a province where persons with disabilities can participate meaningfully in all spheres of life.
