KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli, together with Members of the Executive Council and the Mayor of eThekwini Metro Municipality, hosted Operation Sukuma Sakhe at the KwaNdengezi Sports Field on Wednesday, 26 November 2025.
Operation Sukuma Sakhe is a flagship government programme designed to ensure that essential services reach communities efficiently and effectively, while strengthening cooperation between government, stakeholders, and local residents.
Before proceeding to the main programme, Premier Ntuli engaged with members of Community Safety Structures. The discussions focused on crime-related challenges affecting KwaNdengezi and neighbouring communities, with stakeholders outlining both the root causes of criminal activities and proposed solutions.
The headline event — a community engagement session — provided residents with an opportunity to raise their concerns, share experiences, and make recommendations on service delivery matters. Community members outlined challenges in areas such as infrastructure, safety, social services, youth development, and local economic opportunities.
A highlight of the day was the participation of centenarians, whose presence reaffirmed the cultural tradition of honouring senior citizens for their wisdom, historical insight, and contributions to community life. They were presented with gifts as a gesture of appreciation and respect.
Operation Sukuma Sakhe continues to play a critical role in strengthening partnerships between government and communities, ensuring that issues affecting residents are addressed promptly and collaboratively.
