KwaZulu-Natal Premier Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, together with Members of the Provincial Executive Council, expressed deep sorrow and condolences following the untimely passing of South Africa’s Ambassador to France, His Excellency Nkosinathi “Nathi” Mthethwa.
Remembering a Distinguished Public Servant
Ambassador Mthethwa passed away suddenly while on duty in France. He was a seasoned public servant and distinguished leader whose lifelong dedication to South Africa and its people left a lasting impact. His passing marked the loss of a patriot who contributed immensely to democracy, social cohesion, and nation-building across multiple spheres of government.
Ambassador Mthethwa’s leadership journey began in the liberation struggle and extended into democratic governance. He served with distinction as Minister of Police, leading reforms to strengthen policing and community safety, and later as Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, where he championed the growth of creative industries, cultural preservation, and unity among South Africans.
In his final role as South Africa’s Ambassador to France, he represented the nation with excellence, promoting diplomatic relations, advancing trade and cultural exchange, and showcasing South Africa’s rich heritage on the global stage.
Premier Ntuli’s Tribute
Premier Ntuli described Ambassador Mthethwa as “a disciplined, humble, and visionary leader whose commitment to public service and love for his people were unwavering.”
“His passing was not only a loss to KwaZulu-Natal but to the entire nation. We extended our heartfelt condolences to the Mthethwa family, friends, and colleagues in the diplomatic corps,” said Premier Ntuli.
Cabinet Visit to the Mthethwa Family
As a gesture of respect and solidarity, Premier Ntuli led Members of the Provincial Executive Council on a visit to the family of Ambassador Nkosinathi Mthethwa on Wednesday, 8 October 2025, at KwaSakwaMthethwa in Mbonambi. The visit provided an opportunity for the provincial leadership to convey condolences in person and honour Ambassador Mthethwa’s lifelong service to the nation.
