The Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, in his capacity as the Executive Authority of the Department of Community Safety and Liaison, officially welcomed 377 newly trained members from 11 wards within Inanda held at Amaoti Community Hall. These dedicated individuals represent a broad spectrum of community crime-fighting structures, including the Community Police Forum (CPF), Youth Crime Prevention Desk, KwaZulu-Natal Community Crime Prevention Association (KZNCCPA), Neighbourhood Watch, and the Spiritual Crime Prevention Structure.
This milestone forms part of the Department’s ongoing and unwavering commitment to professionalising and capacitating community safety structures across the province of KwaZulu-Natal. The comprehensive training programme delivered to the new recruits focused on key modules critical to enhancing the effectiveness and integrity of community safety interventions.
Through this initiative, the Department aims to ensure that community safety structures are not only operational but are also empowered with the necessary knowledge, discipline, and practical tools to serve with distinction and contribute meaningfully to the fight against crime.
Premier Ntuli continues to underscore the vital role that community policing plays in the broader crime prevention strategy. Inanda remains one of the high-priority areas plagued by persistent criminal activity. In response, the Department of Community Safety and Liaison recently donated a fully equipped mobile police station to the area, a move aimed at strengthening local policing capacity and increasing visibility.
As a result of intensified interventions driven by the Department, in close partnership with law enforcement agencies and volunteer community crime-fighting structures, Inanda has experienced a notable decline in serious crime, particularly in murder and rape cases. These improvements reflect the tangible impact of coordinated, community-rooted safety strategies.
“We commend the diligence and commitment of our law enforcement officers and community safety volunteers. This collaboration is living proof that when we adopt an integrated, coordinated approach to safety, we can and will dismantle criminal networks and protect our communities,” said Premier Ntuli.
The Premier further applauded the residents of Inanda for responding positively to government’s call for active citizenry and for taking ownership of crime prevention efforts in their communities.
As part of continued efforts to bring lasting safety and stability to the area, Premier Ntuli also announced the official launch of the Inanda Task Team. This initiative, led by the Department of Community Safety and Liaison, will serve as a central coordinating body for the implementation of holistic developmental programmes. Its mandate includes restoring public order, addressing root causes of crime, and reclaiming the streets of Inanda through targeted clean-up and safety campaigns.
Premier Ntuli reaffirmed his administration’s full support for community safety structures and reiterated that sustainable crime prevention is only possible through unity, collaboration, and proactive citizen involvement.
