KwaZulu-Natal Premier Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, accompanied by Education MEC Sipho Hlomuka, visited the uPhongolo Local Municipality in the Zululand District on Thursday, 11 September 2025, to hand over critical resources that will improve learning and teaching in local schools.
Handovers to Strengthen Education Infrastructure
At Siqalukubona Secondary School, the Premier officially handed over a new science laboratory worth R810 000. The facility is expected to enhance the teaching of mathematics and science, providing learners with practical skills and better preparation for tertiary studies and future careers in science, technology, and innovation.
At Siphosethu Special School, the Premier handed over two mobile classrooms and a vehicle worth R1 million. These resources will ease overcrowding, improve accessibility, and support the mobility needs of learners with special educational requirements.
Building on Recent Progress
These handovers follow the launch of two state-of-the-art schools in Newcastle in August, underscoring the provincial government’s ongoing commitment to upgrading education infrastructure across KwaZulu-Natal, even amid financial pressures.
Commitment to Inclusive and Quality Education
In his address, Premier Ntuli reaffirmed that the government’s focus remains on delivering quality and inclusive education that inspires new hope and ensures that no learner is left behind.
“Every investment we make in education is an investment in the future of KwaZulu-Natal. These facilities are about more than bricks and mortar — they are about restoring dignity, creating opportunity, and building a province where every child, regardless of background, has a fair chance to succeed,” said Premier Ntuli.
The visit to uPhongolo Local Municipality reinforced KwaZulu-Natal’s vision of education as the foundation of social upliftment, skills development, and long-term prosperity.
