KwaZulu-Natal Premier Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli today delivered an address in the Legislature to commemorate the beginning of Heritage Month, encouraging members of the Legislature and citizens of KwaZulu-Natal to fully embrace the month’s celebrations.

Embracing Heritage and Unity

In his remarks, Premier Ntuli urged all members of the Legislature to actively participate in heritage celebrations that showcase the diverse cultures, traditions, and histories of KwaZulu-Natal. He emphasised that Heritage Month is an opportunity to strengthen social cohesion and pride in shared identity.

The Premier made special reference to the late King Shaka, describing him as a unifier who laid the foundation for unity by bringing together different tribes and nations under the Zulu Kingdom. He noted that King Shaka’s legacy resonates strongly with the present-day government of national unity, which equally strives for inclusion and cohesion.

Premier Ntuli highlighted uMkhosi Womhlanga (Reed Dance) and Heritage Day as flagship cultural events that shine the spotlight on Heritage Month. He underscored the importance of these occasions in celebrating tradition, honouring identity, and preserving cultural practices for future generations.

Adding significance to today’s Legislature sitting was the presence of a delegation from eSwatini, who are currently in KwaZulu-Natal on a benchmarking visit. Their participation added to the spirit of shared cultural pride and regional solidarity, making the commemoration even more memorable.
