KwaZulu-Natal Premier Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli met with Community Safety Structures under the uMfolozi Local Municipality at the Mbonambi Town Hall on Tuesday, 2 September 2025, as part of the provincial government’s commitment to strengthening grassroots crime prevention initiatives.

Strengthening Community Policing

The Premier emphasised that community policing remains one of the most effective tools in deterring criminal activities across all levels of society. The safety structures in uMfolozi are composed of committed crime-prevention volunteers representing all 18 wards of the municipality. Their work is instrumental in supporting law enforcement agencies, improving safety in neighbourhoods, and fostering trust between communities and authorities.

Mobilising Communities Against Crime

Premier Ntuli encouraged communities to continue playing an active role in the fight against crime, noting that effective crime prevention requires strong partnerships between government, law enforcement, and civil society. He commended the dedication of volunteers who sacrifice their time to protect their communities, describing them as vital partners in building safer spaces.

Crime Prevention Imbizo

Following the engagement at Mbonambi Town Hall, Premier Ntuli was scheduled to proceed to Inkosi Mangosuthu Sports Ground to lead a Crime Prevention Imbizo. This community gathering provided a broader platform for residents, traditional leaders, and safety stakeholders to voice concerns, share insights, and collaborate on practical measures to tackle crime in the region.

The engagements form part of KwaZulu-Natal’s broader crime prevention and safety turnaround strategy, aimed at reducing crime, enhancing visibility of safety structures, and creating secure communities where people can live, learn, and work with dignity.
