KwaZulu-Natal Premier Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli participated in the Legislature Sitting today, where he reflected on recent successes and outlined significant cultural and developmental milestones on the provincial calendar.
Honouring a Statesman’s Legacy
Premier Ntuli announced that the commemorative event for the late Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi will be elevated into a heritage occasion. His resting place will officially be launched as a heritage site during a ceremony to mark his birthday on Wednesday, 27 August 2025. The Premier emphasised that this initiative recognises the extraordinary contribution of Prince Buthelezi to the cultural, social, and political fabric of KwaZulu-Natal and the nation at large.
Reed Dance Ceremony at Mashobeni Royal Palace
The Premier further highlighted that the annual Reed Dance ceremony — one of the province’s most significant cultural traditions — will, for the first time, be hosted at Mashobeni Royal Palace. This marks a new chapter in the continuation of a cultural practice that celebrates purity, womanhood, and unity within Zulu society.
Investing in Education Despite Constraints
In his address, Premier Ntuli also commended the provincial government for its ability to build and upgrade state-of-the-art schools across KwaZulu-Natal. He acknowledged that this progress has been made in spite of stringent budgetary cuts and fiscal constraints, underscoring the government’s commitment to providing quality education and improving learning environments for the province’s youth.
Looking Ahead
The Premier reaffirmed that the provincial government remains steadfast in balancing heritage preservation with developmental priorities. By promoting cultural events, strengthening educational infrastructure, and advancing inclusive growth, the government aims to foster both social cohesion and sustainable progress in KwaZulu-Natal.
