KwaZulu-Natal Premier Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, together with law enforcement authorities, conducted a roadblock on the busy Mangosuthu Highway as part of the provincial government’s ongoing efforts to improve road safety. The operation targeted unroadworthy vehicles and reckless driving, both of which are leading causes of road crashes in the province.
Following the roadblock, Premier Ntuli was joined by MEC for Education Sipho Hlomuka, MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development Thembeni KaMadlopha Mthethwa, eThekwini Metro Deputy Mayor Cllr Zandile Myeni, and Acting Head of Department Ms Nokuthula G. Khanyile on a visit to Igagasi High School. The delegation inspected CCTV cameras installed as part of the Department of Community Safety and Liaison’s school safety programme. These surveillance systems are a key intervention in deterring crime and preventing the theft of school resources.
The Department is intensifying its school safety and crime prevention campaign across KwaZulu-Natal, with a focus on protecting learners, educators, and valuable infrastructure.
Later in the day, Premier Ntuli – in his capacity as Executive Authority of the Department of Community Safety and Liaison – engaged with Umlazi Community Safety Structures at Glebelands Hall. He then addressed a crime prevention Imbizo at Glebelands Stadium, where he engaged directly with community members on strengthening partnerships to fight crime.
These interventions form part of a broader provincial strategy to enhance safety, reduce crime, and build secure learning and living environments for all citizens.
