Mthonjaneni, 24 July 2025 - KwaZulu-Natal Premier Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, together with Members of the Provincial Executive Council, visited the Mthonjaneni Local Municipality in the King Cetshwayo District as part of the ongoing Operation Sukuma Sakhe programme. The initiative, a cornerstone of the provincial government’s people-centred service delivery strategy, brings essential services directly to communities, while fostering greater transparency and accountability.
The day-long programme saw provincial departments and government entities delivering a range of crucial services to residents, including assistance with identity documents, healthcare screenings, social grant support, agricultural services, and youth development initiatives.
“Operation Sukuma Sakhe is about ensuring that government is present where the people are. It is about addressing challenges together and accelerating service delivery so that no community is left behind,” said Premier Ntuli.
The programme culminated in an impactful community engagement session, where residents had the opportunity to raise concerns and provide feedback directly to the Premier, MECs, and senior officials. Issues relating to road infrastructure, healthcare access, water and sanitation, and economic opportunities were highlighted by community members.
Premier Ntuli and the provincial leadership responded with concrete commitments, ensuring that interventions are prioritised and that progress on raised concerns will be closely monitored.
“These dialogues are a vital reminder of why we serve. Listening to the voices of the people helps us to deliver better, and it keeps us accountable as leaders,” Premier Ntuli said.
As part of honouring the district’s elders, the Premier and Cabinet members took time to celebrate centenarians from King Cetshwayo District, presenting them with heartfelt gifts and certificates. This symbolic gesture underscored the government’s respect for the elderly and acknowledged their invaluable contributions to society.
“Our centenarians are living testaments of resilience, wisdom, and community spirit. They deserve to be honoured for the lives they have built and the families and communities they continue to inspire,” added the Premier.
Operation Sukuma Sakhe continues to strengthen the partnership between government and communities, ensuring that service delivery is not only improved but also guided by the needs and aspirations of the people. The visit to Mthonjaneni reaffirmed KwaZulu-Natal’s commitment to inclusive development, responsive governance, and the dignity of all citizens.
