KwaZulu-Natal Premier Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli praised the unwavering spirit of football fans who braved challenging weather conditions to attend the thrilling second day of the 11th Premier’s Cup, hosted at the newly refurbished uMhlathuze Sports Complex—the proud home ground of Richards Bay FC.
The stadium buzzed with excitement as local supporters witnessed an electrifying final match where Richards Bay FC secured a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Durban City, clinching the prestigious 2025 Premier’s Cup title in front of a jubilant home crowd.
“Today we saw more than a match—we saw unity, determination, and the heart of KwaZulu-Natal on full display. I want to thank every supporter who came out despite the rain to uplift and celebrate our young talent,” said Premier Ntuli during the post-match ceremony.
The Premier hailed the exceptional standard of football demonstrated throughout the tournament, noting that the performances reflected the growing strength of youth and professional football in the province. He commended the coaches, players, and organisers for delivering a tournament that not only entertained, but inspired.
“The skill and discipline we witnessed over these two days prove that the Premier’s Cup continues to be a vital launchpad for emerging talent in our province. These players are future stars, and we are proud of what they’ve shown us,” he said.
Premier Ntuli also used the occasion to call on the local community to take pride in and safeguard the newly upgraded uMhlathuze Sports Complex, which he described as a valuable asset for youth development, recreation, and future sporting events.
“This facility belongs to the people. It must be protected and maintained so that it can continue to serve the community for generations to come,” he added.
The Premier’s Cup has grown into one of KwaZulu-Natal’s most important football development platforms, combining sporting excellence with community building and youth upliftment. The tournament continues to align with the province’s vision of using sport as a tool for social cohesion, economic development, and youth empowerment.
KwaZulu-Natal celebrates Richards Bay FC as worthy champions of the 2025 Premier’s Cup and applauds the collective effort that made the tournament a resounding success—both on and off the field.
