KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, demonstrated decisive leadership and empathy when he temporarily adjourned a scheduled Cabinet meeting to engage directly with a group of unemployed doctors protesting outside the Premier’s Office in Pietermaritzburg.

The protest highlighted the growing frustration among qualified medical professionals who remain unemployed despite the province’s significant healthcare needs. In a respectful and sincere exchange, Premier Ntuli acknowledged the urgency of the matter and reassured the protesting doctors that their concerns were both heard and understood.

Addressing the group, the Premier explained that the delay in doctor appointments stems from broader budgetary constraints affecting the provincial government. However, he also provided encouraging news: the Provincial Government has taken proactive steps by creating 20 dedicated posts for doctors. These posts, he confirmed, will be advertised and opened for applications as soon as the necessary documentation is finalised and approved.

Premier Ntuli reiterated his commitment to strengthening the province’s healthcare system while also ensuring that skilled professionals are not left on the margins. He called for patience and unity as government works to secure funding and streamline recruitment processes.
