Durban, KwaZulu-Natal,10 May 2025 - KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli led a high-level strategic session of the KwaZulu-Natal Council on Climate Change and Sustainable Development, bringing together provincial leadership to chart a clear path toward a more resilient, inclusive, and environmentally sustainable future.
The session focused on strengthening the province’s response to climate change while promoting sustainable economic growth that benefits all communities. Leaders from various sectors convened to assess progress and refine strategies that align with the goals of a just transition—ensuring no one is left behind as the province adapts to environmental and economic challenges.
The engagement formed part of KwaZulu-Natal’s broader agenda to institutionalise climate resilience across all government programmes.
Discussions included the integration of climate-smart policies, investment in green infrastructure, and community-based adaptation efforts, particularly in vulnerable rural and coastal areas.
Premier Ntuli reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to sustainability, saying the time for bold, forward-looking action had arrived.
“We must act decisively to protect both our natural environment and the livelihoods of our people,” said Premier Ntuli. “This Council represents a shared commitment to building a KwaZulu-Natal that is not only climate-resilient but socially and economically inclusive.”
The Council on Climate Change and Sustainable Development will continue to serve as a guiding force in aligning provincial initiatives with global environmental goals, while driving local solutions that uplift communities and protect future generations.
