KwaDukuza, KwaZulu-Natal, 27 April 2025 - The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government, under the leadership of Premier Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, led the province’s 2025 Freedom Day celebrations under the theme:
“Freedom for All – Restoring Hope, Deepening Democracy.”
The commemorative event was held at Thembeni Sports Ground in KwaDukuza, within the iLembe District Municipality.
This year marks 31 years since South Africa emerged from the chains of apartheid and oppression, a historic milestone that honours the sacrifices of countless South Africans who fought tirelessly for a free and democratic society.
Addressing the gathering, Premier Ntuli emphasized the importance of protecting and advancing the gains of freedom, while continuing to work toward building a united, non-racial, and prosperous society for all. The Premier also reflected on the responsibilities that come with freedom, urging citizens to actively participate in deepening democracy and restoring hope, especially among the youth.
The 2025 Freedom Day celebration served not only as a remembrance of past struggles but as a powerful call to action—to uphold the values of equality, justice, and human dignity upon which the democratic nation of South Africa was built.
