uMzimkhulu, 17 March 2025 – KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Hon. Thamsanqa Ntuli, spearheaded a crime prevention Imbizo at uMzimkhulu TVET College, Ward 16, in the uMzimkhulu Local Municipality under the Harry Gwala District today.
The Imbizo served as a vital platform to unite various stakeholders, including the Justice Crime Prevention and Security (JCPS) cluster, community crime prevention structures, religious leaders, and the business sector. The objective was to strengthen collaborative crime prevention interventions and ensure safer living conditions for all residents.
The uMzimkhulu community has been grappling with a surge in reported crimes, including stock theft, business robberies, house break-ins, and the alarming rise of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF). Addressing the gathering, Premier Ntuli reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to eradicating criminal elements and restoring peace in communities.
During the engagement, the Premier emphasized the importance of community policing in the fight against crime. He also highlighted the critical role of newly recruited Gender-Based Violence Activists, who have been tasked with offering crucial interventions for victims and survivors of GBVF.
Residents welcomed the initiative, voicing their concerns while also pledging their support for government-led crime prevention efforts. The Imbizo reinforced the government’s dedication to proactive community engagement and strengthened collaboration in addressing crime at grassroots levels.
As the province continues its battle against crime, Premier Ntuli assured the people of uMzimkhulu that law enforcement and community partnerships would remain at the forefront of efforts to build a safer KwaZulu-Natal.
