KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, reaffirmed the Provincial Government’s commitment to strengthening cooperative governance, enhancing service delivery, and addressing key developmental challenges within municipalities across the province.
To further strengthen governance and municipal accountability, the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Executive Council, led by Premier Ntuli, undertook an official working visit to Msunduzi Local Municipality.
During the visit, the Premier and his delegation engaged in a high-level meeting with the Mayor and the Executive Committee (EXCO) of the Municipality. The discussions focused on governance issues, financial mismanagement, infrastructure development, and ongoing service delivery challenges.
The Provincial Government reiterated its commitment to supporting local municipalities in achieving stability and ensuring that residents receive quality basic services. Following the engagements, Premier Ntuli briefed the media on the outcomes of the visit, detailing the Provincial Government’s interventions and outlining steps to ensure accountability and sustainable development within the municipality.
Speaking at a media briefing, Premier Ntuli outlined strategic interventions to restore effective governance in Msunduzi Local Municipality. The municipality has faced ongoing challenges related to service delivery, financial management, and infrastructure development, prompting the Provincial Government to take decisive action.
As part of these interventions, a specialised team led by former Economic Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs MEC, Ravi Pillay, was appointed to oversee and stabilise the municipality’s affairs. This team was tasked with ensuring the smooth running of municipal operations and addressing critical inefficiencies impacting residents.
The intervention reflects the Provincial Government’s proactive stance in restoring good governance, improving service delivery, and fostering cooperative governance across KwaZulu-Natal’s municipalities.
