KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, addressed attendees at the second day of the KZN Amakhosi Workshop in Durban, underscoring the provincial government’s commitment to working closely with amakhosi to address challenges facing traditional leadership.
During his remarks, Premier Ntuli highlighted the critical role amakhosi play in fostering social cohesion, driving rural development, and preserving cultural heritage. He reaffirmed that the provincial government remains dedicated to collaborating with traditional leaders to improve governance structures and service delivery in communities across KwaZulu-Natal.
“We recognise the immense contribution of amakhosi in maintaining stability and guiding our rural areas,” Premier Ntuli said. “It is our responsibility, as government, to ensure we provide the necessary support and resources to empower them to fulfil their mandate effectively.”
The workshop provided a platform for open dialogue, enabling amakhosi to share their perspectives on issues such as land management, infrastructure, and access to essential services. Premier Ntuli commended the institution of traditional leadership for its longstanding efforts to uphold tradition while adapting to modern governance needs.
The Premier’s pledge to strengthen collaboration with amakhosi reflects KwaZulu-Natal’s broader objective of partnering with key stakeholders to achieve inclusive and sustainable development. As the workshop concluded, participants echoed a shared commitment to maintaining ongoing engagement and cooperation for the benefit of local communities throughout the province.
