The Premier of KwaZulu-Natal Mr Thamsanqa Ntuli will on Tuesday, 16 July 2024 lead the Provincial Government oversight visit to two areas that were gutted by fire over the weekend.
This morning a Special Executive Council meeting was convened to discuss the devastation caused by these fires across the Province on human life, livelihoods, stock and infrastructure.
At 9am on Tuesday morning, Premier Ntuli will visit the Kenville Informal Settlement in the eThekwini Metro to offer personal condolences and assess the situation. He will be accompanied by Members of the Executive Council, senior government officials and leadership of eThekwini Metro Municipality.
In this tragic incident over 200 informal units were completely razed to the ground and over 400 people were displaced.
The Premier will then brief members of the Media, outlining government interventions, relief and recovery efforts. The Media Briefing will take place at the Marine Building in Durban.
Later in the day the Premier and the Members of the Executive Council will proceed to Boston, near Mpophomeni under the uMngeni Local Municipality where 6 firefighters are reported to have lost their lives while battling the blaze in a plantation in the area.
