The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government will be empowering emerging wool producers within the province through the supply of Done Merino breeding rams to provincial Wool Growers Associations.
The rams will aid in the improvement of genetics of local animals leading to increased financial returns.
On Thursday, the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Mr Thami Ntuli, together with the MEC for Agriculture & Rural Development, Ms Thembeni Ka Madlopha-Mthethwa, will be in the Harry Gwala District to hand over the rams to 14 associations within the district. In addition, some of these associations will be receiving shearing infrastructure and fencing.
MEC Ka Madlopha-Mthethwa has emphasized that economic growth remains the most powerful instrument for poverty reduction. Therefore, the department would diligently intensify efforts to stimulate growth of rural economies through the provision of resources to farmers.
“Our greatest responsibility is to alleviate poverty by confronting unemployment and inequality. Therefore, this particular programme will enable our farmers to grow within the industry while uplifting rural economies,” said MEC Madlopha-Mthethwa.
On the day, the Premier and the MEC will also be visiting the newly constructed Ngudwini dip tank which has created jobs and also inspect the Mbumbane Grazing Camp.
Members of the media are cordially invited to attend and cover this event.
