Information Briefs
Information briefs are concise, accessible documents that translate complex research findings, data releases, and policy analysis into clear insights for decision-makers. Each brief distils key evidence, highlights emerging trends, and presents actionable recommendations related to a specific issue or data release, enabling policymakers to engage with critical information quickly and confidently, without the need to work through lengthy technical reports.
The briefs are produced quarterly and draw on a range of data sources, analytical tools, and collaborative partnerships, and based on information in the Digital Information and Innovation Hub (DIIH), to ensure the quality and reliability of the evidence presented.
Reports and presentations
Reports provide more comprehensive coverage of research findings, evaluations, assessments, and situational analyses relevant to KwaZulu-Natal's developmental priorities. Where information briefs offer a focused snapshot, reports examine issues in greater depth, providing the broader context, methodology, and detailed evidence base that informs provincial planning, policy development, and performance monitoring.
Together, these knowledge products reflect the Office of the Premier's ongoing investment in building a culture of evidence-based decision making across the province.
The KwaZulu-Natal Office of the Premier Research Agenda sets out a structured roadmap for research in the province, providing macro-level oversight and direction aligned to the Medium-Term Development Plan (MTDP) toward Vision 2030. It is a living document, reviewed and updated annually to remain responsive to shifting developmental priorities and emerging evidence gaps.
The Research Agenda is developed through a combination of evidence mapping, systematic research gap identification, and stakeholder inputs from the Provincial Policy and Research Forum, sector departments, and academic institutions.
The Agenda supports the coordination mandate of the Office of the Premier, encourages a culture of research and evidence-based decision-making and provides research partners and higher education institutions with a clear set of provincial priorities to guide collaborative work and resource allocation.
