KwaZulu-Natal Premier Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli attended the Convention for the Professionalisation of the Public Service, held at the Coastlands Hotel in Musgrave, Durban, on Thursday, 30 October 2025.
The event brought together senior government officials, public sector leaders, and professionals from across the province to discuss ways to promote excellence, accountability, and integrity within the public service.
Advancing Professionalism and Accountability
The Convention served as a platform for reflection and reform, focusing on the ongoing efforts to professionalise the public sector in alignment with the national and provincial transformation agenda.
Key discussions centred around:
 • Capacity building to strengthen institutional performance
 • Ethical leadership and good governance practices
 • Innovative approaches to improve service delivery
 • Institutional reforms aimed at enhancing accountability and efficiency
Delegates explored strategies to ensure that the public service remains citizen-centred, transparent, and performance-driven, in order to effectively meet the needs of KwaZulu-Natal’s communities.
Premier Ntuli’s Call to Action
In his address, Premier Ntuli emphasised that the professionalisation of the public service is a cornerstone of effective governance and a moral obligation to citizens.
“Public servants must uphold the highest standards of integrity, efficiency, and timeliness. Our people deserve a government that serves with discipline, humility, and commitment,” said Premier Ntuli.
He urged public servants to embrace a culture of continuous improvement, ethical conduct, and accountability, noting that good governance is essential for restoring public confidence and achieving developmental goals.

The Convention reaffirmed the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government’s unwavering commitment to building a capable, ethical, and developmental state — one that prioritises service excellence and empowers citizens through responsive governance.
“Professionalism in the public service is not optional — it is the foundation of a government that delivers,” Premier Ntuli concluded.
The event underscored that a skilled and ethical public workforce remains critical to advancing KwaZulu-Natal’s vision of inspired leadership, efficient service delivery, and sustainable development.
