KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli has launched the Organisational Culture Strategy, a groundbreaking initiative designed to embed a culture of service delivery, commitment, and accountability within the Office of the Premier. The launch took place on Thursday, 18 September 2025, at Grey’s Hospital Recreational Hall in Pietermaritzburg, and was attended by senior government officials, staff members, and invited guests.
In his keynote address, Premier Ntuli highlighted that the effectiveness of government begins with the commitment of its workforce. He stressed that a healthy, motivated, and service-oriented public service is vital for ensuring that government delivers on its mandate to improve the lives of citizens.
“A healthy and committed workforce goes a long way in helping the government to deliver services to the people. The Organisational Culture Strategy aims to institutionalise a culture of commitment, while shaping the future of generations to come,” said the Premier.
The strategy sets out to:
• Promote professionalism and ethical conduct within the Office of the Premier.
• Strengthen employee morale and pride in public service.
• Encourage innovation and efficiency in the delivery of government services.
• Foster teamwork, accountability, and leadership development at all levels.
The guest speaker, Professor Somadoda Fikeni, Chairperson of the Public Service Commission, commended the initiative as a bold step in aligning workplace culture with the broader goals of governance. He noted that service delivery cannot be separated from organisational values, and that employees who are supported and empowered are better positioned to serve communities with integrity and dedication.
By formalising this strategy, the Office of the Premier seeks to set an example for the entire provincial administration, ensuring that service excellence is not only expected but actively lived out in daily operations. The launch represents a call to action for public servants to embrace their roles not just as employees, but as custodians of public trust.
The Organisational Culture Strategy is expected to roll out through a series of workshops, training sessions, and monitoring mechanisms to ensure that the values of commitment and service delivery are embedded in practice.
This initiative reflects the Premier’s broader vision of inspiring new hope by building a government culture centred on people, performance, and long-term impact.
