KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, joined the congregation at St Martin’s Church in Edendale today for a special prayer service aimed at addressing pressing social ills and fostering hope for a brighter future. The service, led by Reverend Sithole, marked a call to action for communities to unite in the fight against challenges such as gender-based violence, substance abuse, and inequality.
A Year of Inspiring New Hope
Premier Ntuli reaffirmed 2025 as a year of Inspiring New Hope—a time for rebuilding communities and addressing the root causes of societal challenges. Speaking to the congregation, he highlighted the importance of faith-based organisations in fostering unity, compassion, and moral regeneration within communities.
“As we begin this new year, we must come together to renew our commitment to creating a province free of social ills and violence. The church plays a crucial role in guiding us toward a future filled with peace, hope, and prosperity,” said Premier Ntuli.
Fighting Gender-Based Violence
The Premier used the platform to draw attention to the scourge of gender-based violence, reiterating the Provincial Government’s commitment to protecting women and children and providing resources for survivors.
“Ending gender-based violence is a collective responsibility. As we pray today, let us also commit to action—supporting survivors, holding perpetrators accountable, and teaching our children the values of respect and equality,” he said.
Partnering for Change
Rev. Sithole commended the Premier’s leadership in addressing social challenges and urged the congregation to work hand-in-hand with government efforts. He emphasised the need for ongoing prayer, dialogue, and grassroots action to combat poverty, crime, and moral decay.
A Shared Vision for the Future
The prayer service concluded with a powerful call for collaboration between faith-based organisations, government, and community members. Premier Ntuli expressed gratitude to the congregation of St Martin’s Church for their dedication to uplifting the community and called for continued partnership in building a better KwaZulu-Natal.
“Let us not only pray but also act. Together, through faith, compassion, and determination, we can inspire new hope and create the society we dream of—one that is free of violence, inequality, and despair,” Premier Ntuli concluded.
