The KwaZulu-Natal Acting Premier, Honourable Thembeni Madlopha-Mthethwa, is calling on all citizens to exercise caution in light of the heavy snowfall and rain currently affecting the province. As part of the provincial government's response, we have deployed officers from the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) to assist motorists navigating treacherous roads.
Acting Premier Madlopha-Mthethwa, has expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts of both private and public emergency rescue services, who are working tirelessly to assist stranded motorists on various snow-affected routes.
This partnership is crucial to ensuring the safety of all road users during these challenging weather conditions.
In light of the hazardous conditions, the acting Premier urges all Provincial Government officials to provide assistance to road users, particularly along the heavily impacted N3 route. All citizens are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and to take extra precautions on the roads.
The Provincial Government remains committed to ensuring the safety of all its residents and will continue to monitor the situation closely, providing regular updates to the public.

Due to heavy snowfall, ice, and rain the following routes are not accessible:
-N3 Toll Route from Estcourt in KwaZulu-Natal to Harrismith
-N3 Harrismith to Tugela Toll
* R74 (Harrismith to Bergville)
* R74 Greytown/Colenso Road is closed due to heavy snowfall at Santa Maria
* R617 (Kokstad to Underberg)
* Tugela Plaza
* R103
* N3 North
* N11 - Ladysmith to Newcastle
* N11 Amajuba Pass
The R33 from Vryheid to Dundee remains open, but there is water pooling on the road at Cotswold. The R34 from Newcastle to Blood River/Vryheid is now open, with snow along the route.
The R33 from Vryheid to Paulpietersburg and the R34 from Vryheid to Melmoth remain open.
The N2 Ingeli and the N3 in Mooi River are under close observation.
