The funeral service, held at Mount Zion Christian Centre in Mpumalanga Township, Hammarsdale, on Saturday, April 6, 2024, provided a moment for reflection on the life and legacy of a remarkable individual.
Dr. Mkhize, a paediatrician at Harry Gwala Regional Hospital in uMsunduzi Municipality, dedicated her life to caring for the children of her community.
Premier Dube-Ncube said “Her untimely and gruesome murder, which shook the foundations of communities far and wide, served as a stark reminder of the scourge of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide that continues to plague our society”
The Premier, in her heartfelt tribute to Dr. Mkhize, lamented the devastating impact of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide, which not only robs families of their loved ones but also deprives communities of dedicated professionals like Dr. Mkhize. With a heavy heart, she reflected on the two young children left behind by Dr. Mkhize, highlighting the profound loss experienced by her family and loved ones.
The outpouring of grief and support from across various sectors of society underscored the profound impact that Dr. Mkhize had on the lives of those she served. Described as a gentle soul, dedicated to her patients and committed to making a difference, Dr. Mkhize's legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
As the community mourns the loss of Dr. Mkhize, there is a collective call to action to address the root causes of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide and to ensure that such senseless tragedies are never repeated. Through advocacy, education, and support services, communities stand united in their resolve to create a safer and more equitable society for all.
In honouring the memory of Dr. Zamambo Mkhize, we reaffirm our commitment to upholding the values of compassion, empathy, and justice that she embodied. Though she may no longer walk among us, her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
"Rest in peace, dear Dr. Mkhize. Your legacy will serve as a beacon, guiding us towards a brighter future," concluded Premier Dube-Ncube.
