The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government is intensifying its fight against the scourge of crime in the Province. As part of Government’s commitment to fighting the scourge of crime in the province, the Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube and MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Sipho Hlomuka will hand over essential tools of trade to empower and better equip the functioning of various voluntary community crime fighting structures in the province.
This will take place on Friday, 05 April 2024 at the Hoy Park in Durban.
The provincial government has made positive strides in strengthening relations between community crime fighting structures and law enforcement agencies. To this end, the Premier will unveil and hand over a fleet of 85 vehicles, equipment essential for patrols such as torches, uniforms, and safety boots to augment the work done by these voluntary crime fighting structures.
During her maiden State of the province Address (SOPA) in 2023, Premier Dube-Ncube made a clarion call to all members of the community to play an active role in the noble course of crime prevention and combating, by joining community crime fighting structures, neighbourhood watches, street committees and street patrollers.
During the 2023/2024 financial year, each Provincial Department set aside R10 million that was reprioritized for crime fighting activities.
