The Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Nomusa Dube-Ncube, will on Wednesday, 28 February 2024, deliver the State of the Province Address at the Oval Cricket Stadium in Pietermaritzburg.
The much-anticipated address is expected to give a detailed account of the performance of the Sixth Administration, while also outlining measures to deal with the social challenges facing the province.
KwaZulu-Natal is not only the second most populous province after Gauteng in the country, but it is also the second biggest contributor to South Africa’s Gross Domestic Product. The province is also home to South Africa’s two biggest ports, making it the heartbeat of the country’s economy.
Dube-Ncube, who made history when she became the first female Premier of KwaZulu-Natal since the dawn of democracy, is also expected to trace the journey that has been travelled by the province over the past 30 years of democracy.
The address comes as the province is still recovering from a triple whammy of the COVID 19 pandemic which threw the global economy into a tailspin, the July 2021 unrest, which resulted in scores of lives being lost and a trail of destruction from wanton looting and the devastating April 2022 floods which swept through the province causing massive damage to infrastructure and loss of lives,.
Premier Dube-Ncube is also expected to give a comprehensive account of the province’s economic recovery programme and how the province has been able to turn these misfortunes into a confluence of opportunities.
The Premier will also make important announcements regarding government’s efforts to change the lives of the people of KwaZulu Natal.
