Diwali, also known as Deepavali, is a significant festival celebrated by millions of Hindus around the world, marking the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. It is a time when families come together to rejoice, reflect, and strengthen the bonds that make our diverse community so vibrant and resilient.
“In KwaZulu-Natal, we take immense pride in our cultural diversity, and Diwali provides us with a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the rich tapestry of traditions that contribute to the uniqueness of our province. The Hindu community has played an integral role in shaping the history and identity of KwaZulu-Natal, and their contributions are deeply appreciated and valued," said Premier Dube-Ncube.
“This festival holds a special place in our hearts as it symbolizes the victory of righteousness and the dispelling of ignorance. As we light lamps and illuminate our homes, let us also strive to illuminate our minds with knowledge, compassion, and understanding. Diwali teaches us the importance of unity, tolerance, and respect for one another, values that resonate with the principles we hold dear in our diverse and harmonious province,” said Premier Dube-Ncube.
The Premier said she is grateful for the Hindu community’s dedication to community service and philanthropy. She applauded the community’s commitment to selfless acts of kindness and generosity which serve as an inspiration to all mankind. In the spirit of Diwali, the Premier urged the Hindu community to continue to reach out to those in need, fostering a sense of compassion and social cohesion that transcends cultural and religious boundaries.
“This year, as we navigate through the challenges that life presents, let the light of Diwali guide us towards a future filled with hope, positivity, and collective prosperity. Together, as one united KwaZulu-Natal, we can overcome any obstacles and build a brighter, more inclusive tomorrow.
“I encourage everyone, regardless of their background, to join in the celebrations, participate in the festivities, and share in the joy that Diwali brings. Let us embrace the diversity that makes our province strong, and let this festival be a reminder that, despite our differences, we are bound together by our shared humanity.””
“May the lamps of Diwali illuminate your homes with happiness, your hearts with love, and your lives with fulfilment. We wish you a joyous and prosperous Diwali,” concluded Premier Dube-Ncube.
